I like it, gives that barren region a bit of 'oomph'...

So after some break I've added some farmland on the map. But mainly I have started to make a border for the map. Now I need some advice. Am I going in the right direction with this? What is missing borderwise? Will the font work with the border style?

    What do you think?

I don't know. The border looks kind of like a spooky woodsy thing and the font is ornate. They sort of go together but not quite. I can't really explain. The map itself looks great, though.

I'm with Ascension. I do think though, that if you go all out and make those borders look like actual trees, vines, flowers, etc, it'll give it a kinda Victorian feel which would go well with that font.

Also: Damn! That map is sweet.

Well thanks for the nice words about the map.
Honestly I do really hate to draw borders. But now a small follow up question. If I try to find some other font do you think that the spooky woodsy thingie border works out or does it completely look wrong with the map. Should I go with something more classic?

Honestly, I think the border is too plain as is. But if you give it a little more detail, it'll look great.

The spooky woodsy thing would work great with a spooky, more monotone color scheme like in a purple or dark blue or a dark muted green. Gotta leave some color splashes for emphasis/focal point, though. I feel your pain about borders 'cuz I hate that part as well...and I feel even weirder about using other pre-made borders.
