I was very pleased with the way this turned out. I wanted to keep it as close to hand-drawn as possible, so I chose the fonts accordingly (Aria Penci Roman for the country names, Roughwork Demo for the title in the banner, Writing Stuff for everything else). All of those can be found on dafont.com. The trees were a pain in the @$$; I tried doing them with a pattern stamp, but the result looked too mechanical, so I individually placed every single one. Whew. The colors are pretty low key so they interact well with the overlay layer I did, which is one of Coyotemax's outstanding old paper patterns. The artwork in the corners is from http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/index.htm, which has a bucketload of interesting old artwork. They represent the four elements, which form the basis for most religion on this world.

I may go back and add names for the major rivers and do some other minor tweaking, but the jury's still out on that.

A beautiful piece. The colour palette works great.

Thanks! I think I busted my Brush function placing those forests. Thank god it's a mostly semi-arid place...

Very, very nice, Diamond. The colors work well, and you got a good handwritten vibe with those fonts, without going all illegible-scrawly. Is that jpg artifacting around the title's linework? Or an intentional "here the ink bleeds a little" effect? It makes the title seem softer than the rest of the labeling.

River names? Naaaah - just say locals all call the nearest one "the river" and everybody else uses a formulaic name involving whichever local ruler is paramount, the season, and something religious -- in other words, the names change too often to put on a map :-).

New adjective : kyrful : meticulous placement of small objects, particularly trees.

Yeah, I did a soft blur on the title, jbg. I was going to leave it sharp, but it just didn't seem right to me that way. There's also a slight brown stroke around it.

And thanks for the thumbs up!

I like how you've balanced grittiness with readability. Very nice work.

Man...you just can't make ugly maps, can you?!
As always, an awesome piece. I'm a Diamond-fanboy If I had to critic something i think it would be that the map would look even better with more different mountain-symbols. I would rep you, but as it seems, i have to spread around some rep before i can do that again.

looks really cool - love the palette, the only thing is, as Eilathen allready have mentioned, the mountain symbols which could use some variety - but its a minor thing
