    Default [WIP]Europe?

    Oh hai!

It's been quite some time since I lasted posted, but I finally got some free time to throw away, so I decided to goof around with some maps a little bit.

This is the project I'm currently working on. As you can see, it's Europe, but at this point, I'm not really certain how to proceed on the political borders and labeling. I've tried a few different styles but they all seem to clash with the parchment feel and the relief (which is totally stolen from a2area), so I'd take some suggestions on that, if ya'll have any.
As for the setting, I've got a few ideas, but it might end up being an alternate history thing, we'll see.

Anyway, please do comment if you like it, or if you don't, and enjoy.

    Wow, that's gorgeous!

For borders, you might try either dotted or dashed lines, in a brown color that'll compliment the existing colors. That way you have something well-defined enough to stand out without clashing. For the labels, maybe do them in the same brown as the borders, but in a lighter opacity so the terrain bleeds through a tiny bit?

And good to see you posting again, especially if this turns into an AH map. I loves me some AH.

Looks good. Did you look to actual old maps? They could give you some inspiration for borders.

hi there daelin, long time no hear - good to see you back ... looking good, like the coloring and the compass rose - a few of the "blotches" on the paper are a little strong in my opinion
And looking forward to your alternate history ... i'm thinking that the Vikings didn't just raid and trade but settled and conquered the way it should have been

You know, tilt, I was thinking exactly the same thing. "We" definitely should get the recognition we deserve! All your northeastern England and Normandy, Sicily and everything within 50 kilometers of the Volga River are belong to us! lol...

I've tried a few things with the border stuff, and I think I might have what I'm looking for.
Definitely won't be going with colored borders like this:

It just looks out of joint with rest of the map.

Gotta work some more on it, and look for a cool fitting font for the labeling...

Instead of greens and purples, you could use rust-reds, browns, etc to complement the landscape colors.

...And my vote is that you make that large nation in the west an uber-Caliphate of Toledo.

They do make the nicest swords there.

try a nice dotted line - its a classic
or if you want to do colors, I agree with Diamond, go with more earthy/rusty tones - or even colors just more desaturated ones.
