Default Having trouble naming your countries? Here is a map with name origins.

This is a map with each country labeled by the origin of its name converted into simplified English. I thought it was pretty interesting and might give some insight into how we go about naming our fantastic countries and kingdoms.

Very cool stuff, though a lot of it is probably debatable. I've done a lot of research on the toponymy of earth's country names recently (yes, for my own mapping endeavours! ), and quite a few of these are different from what I found A couple examples are egypt (black land - greek), spain (land's edge - latin), england (land of the angles - greek).

And all of those names are probably just as valid as the ones I found too
