    Question FT issues

I'm getting frustrated with these tire tracks that show up when I create worlds with Fractal Terrains. Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of these?

    Thanks.

Those are a known artifact caused by the fractal algorithm. Joe Slayton has mentioned the problem before. I don't recall what the work around was though. I'll check my KB later and see if I can give you a better answer if no one else beats me to it.

They were an error caused by speed optimizations back in 2000. I recommend using Map>>World Settings and selecting the Wilbur Ridged Multifractal Method on the Fractal Function tab rather than the default Ridged Multifractal function. Your map will change, however, as the two fractal generators do not give the same results.

This is an example the classic case where a bug must be brought forward to maintain backwards compatibility with existing content. I would much rather sweep that bug under the rug and fix the software, but I would break the maps of the installed base. Live and learn, as they say.
