    Map Lakeside fortress

    hi there,

started a new map today... I need a fortress for a future campaign

step 1: looked for a real flourplan of a medieval fortress (they always look better and more realistic than the floorplans I can imagine )
    - cleaned it up, binarized it and croped (cropped?) it in Photoshop

step 3: added the roofs in a new layer (using csuac)
Now it begins to look a little like a fortress

    Next step tomorrow...

Is there anyway to improve the water. Right now it looks very much like a texture. In a real lake, the ripples in the water would be influenced by the nearby shoreline, they wouldn't have the same orientation no matter where they were. Other than that, I quite like it, and I'm not really big on the "aerial photo" style.

Nice finish to the land stuff. As rdanhenry says, the shoreline water would have an almost contour-like effect around it rather than the hessian-weave effect that you've got (at least when thumbnailed down that is). Have you tried using the rocks as a continuation into the water with a transparency fade to simulate moving into deeper water?

Cracking fortress though, very transposable to any setting.
