Wip WIP - Sea Parchment Island

This may be my first map. I don't know, its hard to say. I have been following many tutorials and am continuing to do much experimenting both with new programs and in the ways to use them. Anyway, I have my heart set on a kind of watercolorish map style. I may be working on this for some time, but eventually what I want to do is make a map style that looks really cool and requires very little brushing and tweaking so that the maps can be created very quickly.

In the particular map that I have right now, the land is more or less a placeholder. Currently I am trying to get the feel of the map material right. This is what I have so far.

Also, sorry for the scattered posts related to this. At the time I made those related posts I was only mildly curious about doing a few things. Now my interest has become vigor. And... what am I doing wrong to not get a thumb?

    Some useful cartography facts:
Circumference (C) of the Earth is about 25,000 miles or 40,000 km.
Highest point on Earth is 5.5 miles (8.9 km) above sea level (ASL/BSL).
Lowest point of land on Earth is 1/4 mile (0.4 km) BSL.
Lowest elevation in the ocean is 6.8 miles (10.9 km) BSL.

    And our solar system:
    C of Jupiter = 279,118 miles (449,197 km).
Highest mountain is Olympus Mons on Mars. It is 16 miles high (24 km) and is the size of Arizona.
