Thread: Midgard

    Wip Midgard

Here's my current mapping project, the home continent for my upcoming game. I've tentatively named it Midgard.

You might recognize the outline of the map - it's Ansalon, from Dragonlance, rotated upside down. I'll trim the top part later.

I've been using RobA's "Artistic Map with GIMP" tutorial, but I'm getting mixed results. I like the ocean, shoreline and grass, but I'm less keen on the mountains, desert and tundra. They don't blend well into the other areas. I'm also concerned how to add rivers in - I don't think cutting into the grass layer is going to work so well if I've covered the grass with other layers.

Any suggestions, tips or tricks? I should specify that I don't have a tablet or a scanner, so I'm doing all this in GIMP with a mouse.

I don't use GIMP, so I can't give suggestions, but I do agree with what you have said about the mountains. They don't fit. I am sure that there will be plenty here to give you some advice though. I like the look of the map though!
