Default Frozen North Map for the World of Midgard

I finished this over Christmas for the world of Midgard. It's a new style for the Open Design maps and was one of the first of the new maps created since the launch of the full blown world project. The rest of the regional maps for Open Design will be in this style.

The supplement is looking very pretty (and came out yesterday) - and who can resist armoured bears There's a bit more about this map on the blog. If you like what you see, then you can get a full res version in the pdf of the Frozen North. Enjoy!

Beautiful map, your work is getting better, which should be hard since your work was great to begin with.

Wow! Now that is just lovely. In fact, I am currently working on a map of "the frozen north" in my world and am quite envious at how well you are able to capture the icy look on your map, where all of my efforts have met with failure. But in any event, congratulations on another masterpiece.

    Cheers,

This continues the great style that you've created...good stuff, man.

Whenever I think of bear cavalry I think of these 2 things:

This is really beautiful. I love the mountains, they look realistic and stylish at the same time. So much better than Tolkien's. I also love the burst coming out of Tannasgard. Is that a particularly important area or something?

    Thanks!

Tannasgard was just a convenient location to hide the center of the burst. They're lines for taking N,S,E,W bearings from.

@Ascension Lol - I'd never seen those before. Thanks for the link!

Excellent work Torstan - I like how you differentiated the trees in the North from those in the South capturing the snow covered look.

Thanks Part of that came from running a straight gradient colour overlay on the land so that the underlying colour goes from blues in the north to greens in the south. As all the colours come from semi-transparent layers, that background colour shows through all the elements. So the northern trees are a bluer shade of green. The white highlights were a fun touch - and I'm glad you like them!
