It’s been a long time since I registered an account as Hungry Donner, but my more recent “Cartogriffi” didn’t seem appropriate for a cartographic forum.

I’ve been lurking here on and off ever since Gabe from Penny Arcade mentioned you a few years ago but I’ve only recently registered. For the last several years I’ve been using Google Earth as a mapmaking tool . . . unconventional I know (and ugly as hell!) but I enjoy being able to take the entire global perspective in to account. Eventually I’ll have to boot up GIMP and use my GE guidelines to create something aesthetically pleasing!

A quick question about the forums – is there a private message system or something similar here? I was hoping to contact someone to ask their opinion of some software and a PM seemed better than a new thread . . . it just strikes me as spambot-y for an account’s first post to be about a specific application.

Thanks. I had seen the message system mentioned in the settings but I thought it may have simply been disabled - I participate on a forum that has the image tag disabled by vestigial remains of this option are still scattered about.
