Default May 2011 challenge entry - Armadien, the forest kingdom

Ok so I've decided to do my first challenge ever :-)
This will be a map of the kingdom Armadien in the Etrakien world. Hopefully it will give me a chance to develop my style for more of a close up scale.
So far so good..........and hopefully I will find some time to finish this before june starts.

People come and people go. I walk amongst them, I see their faces; but none see mine. I pass them in the streets but nary a glance is spared my way, for what interest would they have in a Wanderer? Not of this world... Forever Alone... Forever Wandering... LoneWandererD...

Here is a little update of the map. I've added some rivers, given the forest some clearer edge and I'm testing a bit with some farmland.
Now I need to create some icons for the cities.

A small update to the map. I've added some more mountains at the southern pass, cities, roads and borders. Don't know about the city icons, might redo them if I find the time. Next step will be labeling and border.

I've added a map border, names for the cities and some small stuff. I'm nearing completion of the map, if you guys don't see something that is completely out of bounds. Some more names of mountains and countries. And by the way Armadien is the western country in the map and its capital is Armadia.

I like the overall style, etc. but the labels are really hard to read at this point.

Agreed. You need a darker red or a brown. Still nice, though.

Thanks for your comments, which I have listened to. The labeling is now darker red, and brown in some areas. I've added some more names in this version as well, a compass and some adventures areas. I mean a map has to trigger your fantasy and give you inspiration to discover the place. So a bit of ruins and a Traal (humanoid troll like creatures) infected area is in place, and will hopefully make the map a bit more interesting. I've also changed the edge of the forest. It was a bit too uniform before, I think.
