Thread: Hi!

    Default Hi!

I'm Meltintalle and I've been drawing maps since I was about ten and thought it would be the coolest thing ever to draw out the places around my house while I was out with my bike. (Not surprisingly, they weren't very accurate maps, but they sure were fun!)

At the moment, I'm working on a map or two for fantasy stories I've written, just to keep places straight and distances consistent. So I've been looking around at all the tutorials and information, and I've got to say "Thank y'all so much, this is great, and inspiring, and...!"

Welcome, Meltintalle! Sounds like your early field work was an excellent basis for a lifetime of map interest :-). Now I understand some copycat outfit named Gargle or Giggle or Google or the like is using bikes in its street mapping projects. Ha. Johnny-come-latelies.

So do you already have access to graphics tools with which to map? I mean other than pen and paper, which are fine; you'd just need a scanner before we could comment and critique your efforts.

jbgibson, I use both Gimp and Photoshop 7.

Using the tutorials, I jumped right in and achieved some nice looking results. I just hope they're not all pretty and no substance!
