Thread: Map of Fantasy Setting

    Default Map of Fantasy Setting

I'd like to publish a book electronically this summer. I'm looking for a CC3 map of the fantasy setting, which is basically some cities, rivers and towns ringing a large bay. I'd send a scan of a hand-drawn version to whoever took this on.

If you'd like to make suggestions on how to improve what I send you, that would be fine too! I'd probably end up using the map in the book and on my website, crediting the mapmaker of course.

I was thinking of $100 for the fee. I'd want the copyright, while still giving rights to the mapmaker to use in a portfolio.

I'm not picky about the program you'd use --- I suppose it would probably be CC3, but I'm open to any other software a mapmaker might care to use.

I happen to have access to both CC3 and Photoshop, but I'm not confident in my ability to produce something that looks professional.

    Thank You!

    Hello again,

I notice I didn't specify what "Style" of map I was looking for. I think the "Veskar" map by arsheesh is the closest thing I could find to what I'd like best, though the climate of the land being depicted seems to be much warmer on my map than on Veskar. I don't know what kind of "Style" that is . . . is there a list of distinct "styles"? I'm sorry if I missed it. . .

I'm also not sure about what size the map should be. E-readers do want specific sizes, and I suppose there's probably a size that would be right for my website. I'll try and research what those sizes would be.

There is a "sticky" at the top of this forum, please read through it and provide as much of the information as possible.

This should help in finding any 'takers'

    Default Success!

    Hello again everyone

Just posting to say I'm VERY happy with the work done by RecklessEnthusiasm!

There are a lot of fantasy novels with maps out there, so I had a lot of ideas rolling around in my head --- some were practical, and others weren't so practical. RE was great about getting it all to work as seamlessly as possible.

He was also very fast! Sometimes I wouldn't get a chance to look at his latest version until late at night, so I'd sent him another round of tweaks and he'd have them done and sent back lightning quick.

He was very professional and very creative at the same time --- he has a good sense of how a fantasy land's geography might affect its culture and economy.

He was one of the most pleasant, efficient people I've ever worked with! I certainly hope to write more novels, and I'm not the only one --- most of the other authors I meet write thrillers or romance, but fantasy is doing reasonably well as a genre. I will be sure to refer them to the Cartographer's Guild (and RE in particular) whenever the subject comes up! I'll also post here when the book comes out --- I've given the mapmaker credit on the copyright page, with the specific note that he retains the right to display the map as an example of his fine work!
