Thread: Hello from Greece!

    Default Hello from Greece!

Hello, first time posting in the forums here, I' m a big fan of fantasy cartographing and came here hoping to learn more things and techniques about it. I use GIMP 2.6, and would really appreciate some lessons.
Here is the first map I made:

It was made for a forum RPG game, and was based on a tutorial I found in DeviantArt. I used some brushes I found online for cities and stuff.
I hope I' ll enjoy my stay .

    Also, I have a Question:
Where can I find the "lighten" option? My GIMP was translated to Greek even thought I downloaded the english version. Thanks for your attention .

    Welcome Aboard!

Plenty of fantastic tutorials available to enhance your mapping skills.

I'm not a GIMP user so can't answer your question, but I'm sure someone will be along who can.

That's pretty nice on the whole, but you've got rivers going sea-to-sea. You need to read http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...he-right-place.

I'm not sure what scale you intended. If those are meant to all be islands, you've got a nice arrangement. You did miss labeling a couple of places of interest. There's an unlabeled ruin on the west-most island (as a ruin, that might be okay if it hasn't been identified yet) and a city with no name on the southeast island.

Whoops, you' re right, I forgot to label some cities .
Also, yes, the ruins are supposed to be unindentified, but the world isn' t islands... Hmm, yes, the scaling is too bad...
Anyway, thanks for your help and your comments .

Welcome to the Guild. I like this map it's very informative. As the "lighten" option it's under the "colors" tab.

Here's the solution to the language problem: http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-fire-up...nning-language

The GIMP installs with support for a range of languages, and then asks the OS which one to use. The above link explains how to tell Windows to tell The GIMP to use English. Having done so, it will also apply for a lot of other Unixlike software ported to Windows like Inkscape.
