    Map hi :)

My name is Felix, I made this map using Photoshop and objects from places i am sure you will recognize. Your comments will be appreciated, well if they are nice they will be, if they are just mean i doubt i will appreciate them much. Constructive criticism will be listen to and utilized, but again, the appreciation i feel for those comments may be diminished, depending on how mean they are. If you like my maps, you may use them for anything you like. If you dont like them, well then you can't use them at all.
    Thanks!Click image for larger version.

Welcome aboard. Thanks for starting right off sharing something. I rolled around your dungeon map for a bit. Man those cells are really small...I'd hate to be stuck in one of those. I am happy to give you your first rep slap

The whole "don't be mean" bit comes across as a bit whiny and condescending. You seem to have made up your mind that people are going to "be mean" before you've even given us a chance. If you met someone in real life would you start out by demanding, repeatedly, that they not be rude before even giving them a chance to say a word? If someone did it to you, wouldn't you be a bit offended by it?

With that out of the way, your maps are pretty good for a first try. Dungeon maps like this aren't really my thing but I notice a few alignment issues in places: the boundary between the platform and the rock in the first map, and a few places in the walls of the second. I assume Photoshop has some sort of "guideline" function that will let you snap selections to it, that will help you line things up. You should also try to re-use existing selections, masks, etc rather than trying to draw the same shape multiple times. For instance, if you drew the cliff, then the platform on another layer, then turned the opacity of the platform layer into a selection, you could move to the cliff layer and cut out a hole that exactly matches the platform.

The "rock" texture is also a bit overwhelming and noisy. Something more subtle might be better, and/or you could restrict it to just the exposed walls. Personally, I'd leave the deep areas of unexposed rock as a flat colour and just fade into the texture at the walls.

I hope you found that helpful and "not mean".

welcome to the guild and a good start on the mapping. One question springs to mind - that room with the rocks - how did those get in there?

concerning the mean comment I'm with Hai-Etik - give us a chance, this is no doubt the friendliest place on the web

No, the don't be mean thing was a joke, i am a forty year old man, not know for whining. Also not known for "introducing myself" I had not much to say, so.. I said what I find humorous instead. I really could not care less about mean, nice. criticism or otherwise. My girlfriend suggested i post one of my maps because of coarse she thinks they are awesome and the comments might be interesting. I do appreciate you taking a second to scan the map so carefully.

Cave in. It's actually in use in a campaign and that was part of the whole mess.

There are a lot of people who would post something like that in all seriousness, so it wasn't clear it was a joke. Then again, maybe I've just spent too much time on deviantArt.

I'm glad you found my comments helpful.

yeah - deviant art might do that to you... lots of bitter small-minded people on there especially in the forum part.

ah a cave in - okay that makes more sense .. I think perhaps what "confused" me was that is was so nicely placed in the center - perhaps throw it more up against a wall, and maybe through the wall as well?
