Wip Commission: Prelacy of Rathmore and Surroundings

This is a commission I've taken on to map a region roughly equivalent to the Mediterranean basin. Request thread here.

At present I'm working on symbolizing the various climate/biome types: Boreal Forest, Temperate Forest, Steppe, Mediterranean, Semi-Arid, and Arid. Much of the temperate forest has been cleared by human activity; I expect the Elves aren't happy, but thankfully that's not my problem to deal with.

Target size is an A3 print.

    Here's an overview.

As usual, this is done in Inkscape with some help from custom Ruby scripts to massage the SVG.

Thanks, that's what I like about working with Inkscape. Though the trick is to take a little bit of that crispness off at the end using filter effects so it isn't so immediately obvious it was all done with a computer.

Well, the trees by themselves represent a Mediterranean climate (Think gnarled old olive trees), while with the grass symbols they represent what I've been calling 'semi-arid", but yes, it's pretty much savannah and near desert.

Further updates. I wasn't able to accomplish much due to some email problems but I made up some roads, which will probably be completely replaced (It's not like they are much work) added some regional labels, and applied my trusty parchment filter.

Wow! That's gorgeous. I love the simplicity and cleanness of it. Every symbol looks great, and they all balance each other well, as in, the mountains don't overpower the forests, or vice versa.
