    Help Question : Is there a GIMP pattern for effect <<crumpled paper>>

    Hi everybody !

    I'm trying to "re-design" some existing maps.
    and it seems to me that the water here is made like if a kind of "crumpled paper" pattern was used to make it.

    Maybe am i wrong
    But i really want to make that effect.
    using GIMP.

    Also, if you know how to make the wooden paths of this other one, i'm really interested.

    Trying to reproduce by myself some existing maps helps me to learn how to draw further my owm maps.

    Thank you for all your tips.

    The core of that looks like a continuous noise function like Perlin used as a height field for a lighting filter with a high specularity.

    I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but if you want a crumpled paper effect just find a crumpled paper background (or crumple your own paper and scan it) and use it for a background. Then you could use multiply layers, overlay layers, whatever techniques you're using.

    Hi Souricette,

    1. For the water, google 'free water texture' under images. For example, I found this in 1 second: http://www.cltextures.com/texture-im...age-1-1699.jpg
    Check it really is free, and ensure you know about copyright etc if you intend to sell or publish your map in the future. Often you can't sell your map if you download other people's textures, but its fine for your own use.
    Bring into gimp, rescale to your desired scale, and tile as neccessary so it covers your image. Then erase the parts you don;t want (ideally with layer mask), and add finishing touches.

    2. For the water, google 'old wooden planks' under images. For example, I found this in 1 second: http://texturelib.com/Textures/wood/...01_preview.jpg

    Bring into gimp, rescale, and alter as desired. For example, you might want to seperate the planks so you can see the water below them. so select one plank, cut and paste onto a layer with an alpha channel, and so on until you have a walkway. Then tile/cut and paste as desired, and turn the walkway as required. Add finishing touches.

    You could do it like Jacktannery said, or you could draw it by hand. I don't know where your drawing skills are at.
