Tutorial Mini-Tutorial: Add night to a satellite view map (English and French version)

When I created my first satellite view map, I wanted to try to make also a satellite view of this country by night, with the lights of the cities, the villages, along roads, coasts, etc. and I succeed in.
Since, I made other satellite view maps and I got used to create each time a night satellite view of these maps.
The method I use is very easy, and doesn’t require a lot of time.
You’ll see, it’s so simple that, for a moment, I hesitated to make this tutorial, thinking that, the ones who knows very well photoshop or the gimp should probably not be interested in it.
So, I think that this tutorial will probably be interesting for the beginners.

Before beginning, I prefer warn that there are certainly numerous language mistakes in the English version. I hope the tutorial is comprehensive all the same and that you'll be able to make a night satellite view of your universes.

    Here is the English version:

Here is the example of an entire "diurnal" map on which I add night (contrary to the tutorial where - to facilitate things - I only took screenshots of a portion of map). You can see two slightly different nights in this example
N.B. You can observe that, in the night version, I’ve decreased the opacity of the elements still visible in order that they were not too visible on the new night-tints of the map. And I should had more lowered it to my mind…

Necessary time : about 15 minutes for this map
Temps nécessaire : environ ¼ d’heure pour une carte comme celle-ci.

If you try, don't hesitate to share your results

edit: Moreover, I think it's largerly possible to improve this technique

that's pretty nifty, I may give it a shot.
Actually my thought is to take my city map and apply this technique.. *argh too many ideas now!*

With a city scale map, it's a great idea!
I didn't thought of it before because I've never done a city map

    nice idea!
