nice little map - I'd suggest that you use anti aliasing on the texts to make them less edgy - and perhaps throw on a border/frame ... good start, and welcome to the guild

Nice map Pelarono. I reckon Tolkien based Numenor on the island indicating Atlantis on the Anglo Saxon Cottonian map (he was a scholar of Anglo Saxon). Check it out- it lies at the bottom of the map. The two things beneath the star island are the Pillars of Hercules. http://www.henry-davis.com/MAPS/EMwebpages/210.html

He certainly based it on Atlantis, but I don't know if he ever saw that map.

Me neither Cantab, but considering his more than passing interest in maps and his area of expertise, I think it's highly likely that he saw at least a reproduction of it.

Being a big fan of Tolkien, I am impressed with this map. I think you did a great job.

Looking at that Anglo Saxon map, I think it is very likely Tolkien's design of Numenor was very much inspired that map. And considering Tolkien was a Professor in Anglo-Saxon, it is hard to think that he never saw the map or a reproduction of it.
