    I came across:

    Floodplain and Meandering Research

    and

    Drainage Basin Simulation Studies

They might be of interest to someone who 1) knows what to do with data like this and 2) can understand some programming

I ran the provided windows binaries, and got output files, but in a raw format which I have no idea what to do with, or how even to view them graphically...

I particularly liked the sample of the meandering river in a floodplain:

Thanks Rob, that is very interesting. I think Monks might like to have a peek at this too.

Wow! RobA, what a find! Flood plains and valley basin ridges. I see there also current research being done on crater impacts too, which I planning to use to build 3D planets with. Hopefully these crater software will become available soon. It will help me a long way. Some interesting results so far.

Oooh yes, I like this kind of thing. Check this out:

Last I heard Joe Wheaton had moved from ooCAESAR to MORPHED- or it had undergone a name change. This is about as close to using scientific simulation software that ME-DEM has been. I'm sure if you had the time/ patience/ project manpower, you could turn this to amazing effect on your terrain.
