So, for some time, I've been coming here by chance because of my research leading me here. Today I found myself doodling on my 'grand map' sketch again, pondering for the thousandth time the effects the forces of nature would have on my land masses.
While I'm not new to drawing maps, I'm certainly no more than a novice when it comes to the effects of prevailing winds, plate tectonics and so forth.
Some of the maps I've seen here are absolutely amazing and a great inspiration. I'm working on an fantasy RPG world that, while no doubt classifiable as high fantasy, incorporates quite a bit of realism. (For example, I spent a few weeks doing astrophysical research to get my lunar oppositions et al. believable.)
I've been playing around a bit with Fractal Terrains but find that it's very hard to really get anywhere with it.
I've ditched all the old maps I made for this project since they were utterly unrealistic. Now I could really need help getting somewhere with this huge project.
Seeing the stuff you guys do inspires me, so merely having registered here will probably be helpful, heh.
