I bag the chess map concept. Currently adding set pieces. Just as I was about to post I had some doubts if I got the board right. A quick check and I had made a mistake. How could I forget? Light on right! Fortunately a quick inverse and the board was fixed.

Fury that looks excellent - especially the hotpants on the rooks and the bottom-upper-thigh-revealing trousers on the bishops.

Black Sci-Fi pieces now added. Since Sci-Fi and Fantasy are different genres I've made them look like different 'set pieces'. I've also settled for Pawns, Bishops and Queens to be female and the rest to be male.

Just wondering, aren't queens usually diagonally from each other?

Kings and Queens have to face each other down the file (column) so playing Black sometimes gives the feeling of the King or Queen out of position.

Yeah, basic rule to remember: the queen starts on her color. So the black queen will start on the royalty's black square, and the white queen will start on their white square. Though I'm so used to playing black that looking at it from white's point of view messes with me even though I know it's right.

Yes, I'm colorblind. But my pink fields and orange forests are avant garde!!

White King - Big bad LotR reject! * Rue (not a spelling error!)
White Queen - Still a baby really, a fully grown adult would wipe out the board!
White Bishop - I'm sexy and I know it
White Knight - Hope I don't crease my medieval Armani pants
White Rook - Jolly green giant
    White Pawn - Extras!

Black King - Can you say "Bounty Hunter Jedi?"
    Black Queen - Pumpkin Tron
Black Bishop - What'd you say?!
Black Knight - Everybody was Kung-Fu fighting!
Black Rook - Not another movie reference
    Black Pawn - Rejects!
