Wip Erie - Planet - Concept and map...

this is something I have been working on for a while
I will be revamping this page hopefully this weekend to make it more user friendly.

    http://www.designsnlines.com/special.html

    Still working on :
    1. Blending coastlines
    2. oceans
    3. low rez areas to be created full rez, various painting touch ups and blends.

For now only the large continent near the middle with the massive crater is near completion, also for scale references its about the size of Australia.

A topo study of the crater ocean area.

    1. I was thinking a 100m difference between yellow and green, but only a 10m or less between greens, and yellow browns.
    2. Think massive waterfalls on the edge of the large crater, flowing down into lush tropical forests below.
    3. Think temperate (north america) climate for the yellow and higher altitudes, giving way to oak trees, aspen forests, etc, and very hot and dense jungles below...this continent is near the equator, and at the crosspoints of several major weather patterns on the planet.

This is looking quite nice so far Ranger. What software are you using to create this? Have you incorporated any Sat images of earth into the map (e.g. the mountains)?

    Cheers,

Very cool. You ought to post this in the Tutorials section where others can find it. Have some rep for sharing though.

I just realized I never posted a more finished version.

This is the version I printed (won 3rd place in a local art competition) If I ever find my thumb drive, I will finish up the coastlines a bit, and do more algae blooms in the ocean.
