    Map Trying something new

I am experimenting with a new style of map. This is my first sample. This is just a test map, and I am just trying some new styles with it.

Anyway, does this look like it will make a fairly attractive map?

Your shadows are a bit intense. I'd probably prefer them to be about half as dark as they are now. But your rivers look awesome. Nice work.

Perhaps an outline to define the shore a little more. I like the mountains.

    I like your style

If this is you trying out something new, you are a great mapper by any standard, it took me ages to make something that good!

Add more detailed textures and maybe tone down the shadows a bit and you have something very good indeed IMHO.

Interesting to see that you have made the same mistake I have made with my Greyhawk project..lol. If north is up that is.

    Keep up the good work!

I was thinking the same thing about the shadows. I will back them down a bit.

Thanks for the compliment Anna. I love your work on the Greyhawk maps. Can't wait for them to be done!
I never even thought about the shadow direction! Thanks for pointing that out.

Looks very nice to me. I'd have to see it with less shadows to comment on that, right now, it has real gaming-feel to it.

Also, I currently have the woodlands with a brighter green color, but I am thinking that I should go with a darker green and maybe have some texture to it?

I really like this. I would never argue with HR on maps. I don't like looking stupid.

For a "serious" modern map, I would definitely damp out the shadows and highlights a bit. Probably reduce saturations some too.

As it is, while perhaps less scientific in nature, it is strongly evocative. It gives a feel of the landscape. It makes me see the place, and I see a lot of exciting nooks for adventure.

You realize, of course, a tutorial is now required.

    Map

Ok, now this one is a map from my game world. Still a WIP, but a little further along, and I have tried to do some changes to my template based on some feedback from here.
