    Default June 2012 entry: Muspelheim

For my tentative entry I thought i'd try something Sci-fi (not my usual cup-of-tea); a geologically-active satellite. the red is magma between plates of metal that move about like accelerated tectonics. gems and ore is common along the 'shores' of these plates, which is why its been chosen for mining operations. Locations and further info still to be added.

I generally don't do Sci-Fi art, but this is beyond Excellent!

Argh, I'm actually thinking about entering this competition but this map is very similar to the idea I was working with (not to mention it's looking quite good). Hm, guess I'll have to re-think some things.

    Cheers,

haven't had as much time as I wanted to work on this, but here's a small update. still want to add some details and perhaps a form of border and, of course, a title, though other than that there's little else i want to add.

    This looks better and better!
Did you use the 3D tool in Photoshop to create the planet?

yeah, just a cool cracked earth texture, sphereised with a heavy bump layer (same texture underneath) and some tinkering with various other settings on the 3D layer and lighting to make the 3D effect pop a bit more.
