Default June 2012 Entry: As a civilization slowly vanishes beneath the ice

Hi, all, I'll try entering the fray. Nothing like learning to swim by jumping into the deep end .

Beginning with just a rough sketch that I'll build off of...

Brave girl! Welcome to the deep end. Look forward to seeing how this develops.

It looks good so far. You could use it as a map even now. =)

Arf, I wanted to enter with this kind of approach... I'll try to find something else... Good luck with that!

Nice idea, reminds me of one of my recent challenge entries where I had glaciers, too, but receding, not growing.

    Love the concept

People come and people go. I walk amongst them, I see their faces; but none see mine. I pass them in the streets but nary a glance is spared my way, for what interest would they have in a Wanderer? Not of this world... Forever Alone... Forever Wandering... LoneWandererD...

    Thanks, guys

Eventually I want to "paint" this in Corel, but I'm roughing it out in Inkscape first, because it's easier to get the structure (of the changing coastlines, and the edge of the glacier) that way:

This was, of course, way too ambitious of a concept to start so near the end of the month (and a lot of info to convey, with population movements, changing terrains, etc.). I'll do the best with it I can in the time that I have.

More sketching out. Rivers and cities (I've roughed out roads too, but in such a sloppy way that making that layer visible makes the map incredibly fugly.)

Looks like a good start. Hope you manage to finish it in time.

Ah, I'm realizing that, given the time available with current skill level (a lot of trial-and-error time for figuring things out), there's no way I'm going to be able to do what I'd intended for the piece in time . That's OK, it's good practice anyway.
