    Post Interesting City Concept

Was watching the Dr Strange animated movie, and in it, Dr Strange travels to a mysterious tibeten city to learn the mystic art.

Here are some screen captures of the city from the movie.

I'm thinking of including a city like this in Skolvendun somewhere in the Dragons Fang Moutains.

    It's beautiful.

I was wondering if there was a resource for pictures, photos, and other artwork of fantasy cities anywhere. I'd love to have a stock of artwork similar to this that I could pick through for inspiration at times.

    Does anyone know?

HandsomeRob, not sure if this is what you are looking for, but buried deep within the Selandia site I linked to last year is a page with pictures of fantasy castles, cities, and buildings drawn from comics, books, and other sources. You can find it at http://otouro.elio.free.fr/illustrat...trations08.htm.

Its part of a larger gallery (found at http://pagesperso-orange.fr/selandia/images.htm) that has images of ships, monsters, character classes and so on. Hope you are able to find some inspiration from it.

P.s. Also try looking in Google. Their image collection can be very random, but looking at http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...&um=1&ie=UTF-8 shows quite a few of the inspirational type images you were looking for.

Its funny you picked the first link as one of your favorites Airith, the picture of the cathedral is from one of my favorite children's books: Lebek: A City of Northern Europe Through the Ages (http://www.amazon.com/Lebek-City-Nor...0132554&sr=8-1) The book is a clone of the types of books by David MaCaulay (Pyramid, Cathedral, City, Underground, etc.). It consists of a series of drawings (with some descriptions) showing the development of a fictional northern European city on the Baltic (based on Lubeck) from 1000 AD to 2000 AD. The drawings are good looking and the book is great background material for understanding how urbanization functions in the growth of cities.

I can spot a Rodney Matthews one in there. I have posted about him in the past relating to my Werther Skull challenge entry. He has lots of places which are like that and fairly wacky. See gallery over at...
