    Default First map, attempt

Joined this forum a while back but didn't really give mapmaking a try until a few days back. Anyway, here's my first attempt at a map. Made it as a scenario for a certain game, hence the fuzzy borders. Will probably attempt to make new, hopefully, better maps.

A good start (much better than my first map). The mountain symbols look out of keeping with the rest of the map though (a bit too 'realistic' in style and perhaps too obviously cut and pasted). I do like the forests - very nicely done although perhaps a darker outline would work better (a very dark grey or green). Congrats on taking the plunge and posting your map. Have some rep for a really good start!

Good start, Mikso. Welcome to the Guild!

You'll improve your rivers if you take a look at Redrobes' How to get your rivers in the right place tutorial. The tenets of plausible hydrology that you are missing are that rivers generally join on their way downhill, not split, and one will see only a single outlet from a lake, not multiples. Both could be boiled down to "there's one best way down from anywhere".

With a low-precision coastline - which is fine, not every type of map needs super detail - you'd expect the offshore depiction of shallows to also be pretty generalized.

    Thanks for jumping right in!
