Confession: I have absolutely no idea where this is going. (The thread title is a reflection of that). But since I don't have time to sit around and wait for inspiration to start, I figured I'd just start working on a map, and figure out what it's about (and what my before-and-after are) when I get there.

    Rivers.

I've made several attempts to add the mountains, but I'm not happy with any of them yet.

The hardest part is to start; you already done so! Congrats

I don't know with which software you workin with, but if it's with photoshop, you can create brushes of mountains and trees;there is a lot of tutorials on this site, and I found a good one from RPGMapMaker's.

Problem is, I can't find his tutorial about brushes on this site so I found his on Youtube (hope I can post this here):

There is also this page for Tips and How-To:http://www.cartographersguild.com/fo...torials-How-To

Hope this help! I will use my own brushs for the current challenge thanks to the youtube video of RPGMapMaker's

    Thanks .

Actually, I'm using Inkscape, which is vector-based. I'm experimenting with ways to do a top-down view, and had a few false starts, but I think I'm making progress toward that end now.

I don't know Inkscape, but it looks to be a very good software, after a very quick look So, self-taught! I admire that! I look foward to see your progress

Still have no idea where I'm going with this.

I spent all last week trying different ways to do a top-down satalite-style view of mountains with Inkscape. Still not 100% happy with it, but I think I'm on the right track.

I've finally figured out what my "before" and "after" will be: the map before human settlement, and the map after an extended period of (low tech) civilization.

Attention river police: hold your horses . My figuring-out-what-I'm-doing-as-I-go means there are changes in each of the layers that have not yet been applied to other layers. As such, my mountains don't even agree with my mountains -- let alone my rivers. So the rivers are going to do improbable things until I get all the layers up to the same currency

Edited to add: the mountains are out of control I think they need to be thinned down a bit.

Alright. Cleaned up the inconsistencies from the last version, and trimmed away some of the mountains.

    Time for bed, I think.

I'm in danger of going overboard with the world-building & missing the deadline

(figuring out where the biomes are, so I can figure out the historical linguistic/cultural groups, so that I can determine the current political boundaries, and which borders are stable and which contested, and where the major trade-routs are, and...)

Two weeks. Two more weekends. Must be vigilant against scope creep.
