Default Using the same coastline for regional and world maps

I've been working on my world map for some time now and I really like it, but I'd like to start developing some of the regions in greater detail. My question, I suppose, is this: is there some easy way in Photoshop (cs5 or 6) to easily use the same coastline of a region? For instance, is there an easy way of taking a selection of the layer outline and scaling it up without it becoming messy and pixelated? Do any of you have any tricks for this sort of thing?

Yes! I'd suggest that you crop the selection of coastline that you want to 'zoom into', upscale the document to a bigger document size (it may well get pixelly at this stage) and then use OldGuy's coastlilne tutorial to fractalise and sharpen the upscaled coastline while keeping the main shape of it.
