    Default Medieval Urban History Links

It may have occurred to some of you that I prefer "smaller scale" maps of towns and things. At least those are the ones I enjoy making most. I find they are more intimate - more closely linked to the people who live there. So I do a lot o' web trawling on such topics.

I stumbled across a few things while randomly looking such things up. I thought I would share some interesting ones I found.

This site shows detailed plans and whatnot of towns founded after the Conquest of wales by Edward I. It was created by the Archeological Data Service of the University of York. I don't know what software and such they used - maybe some of our GIS specialists can enlighten us there. It is very interesting.

And this is the links section of an interesting site on medieval towns. It is quite extensive. The site itself has some very interesting articles.

    Hope you find them useful.

Nice links. I was actually going to do my honours thesis on Keith Lilley's work (the first one). A lot of potential there for mapmakers.
