Thread: Medieval Town Practice

    Wip Medieval Town Practice

I've always wanted to create a town map but for one reason or the other never found time to do it. Here is a WIP of my first stab at creating a town in GIMP. I kept the document size small so that my system wouldn't get bogged down as the layers piled up. So, given the size, I won't be using this for anything - it's really just practice.

    Cheers,

    Fine looking indeed

A question : how did you do the white/lightblue gleams on river surface ? I'm trying to draw one on my map but it doesn't satisfy myself because of that...

Thanks. What I did was to take a grunge brush (that consisted of a bunch of little splats of paint), set it to 50% opacity and set the px size to random, and then just paint in the currents and light reflection. In some places where I wanted quite a bit of gleam I set the opacity to 100%. Took a bit of experimenting with different brushes before I landed on one that worked for me.

Looks great. The set up of your town with the roads and all looks very realistic.
