Thread: Treasure map for kids birthday party

  1. #1

Default Treasure map for kids birthday party

I needed a simple map of my neighbourhood in pirate style for the birthday party of my kid. I based the map on an birds eye view shot from Bing maps. Drawn in Xara Designer Pro. All is vector except for the paper texture and the ship, cutlass, flag and crocodile (these I plucked from the web).

    The map:

What a cute idea. I like that.
And the graphics is nice. Looks like a theme park map.

It looks like a fun map for a good pirates' treasure hunt! I think the abstraction level is good enough to give the kids a challenge in orienting themselves on the map, without making it impossible to do so.

Well, the party's over, and I have to conclude that 6-year olds that are, let's say, slightly over-energetic, do not take the time to actually study a map when they have to go look for a treasure. Was great fun though.

    Thanks for your replies.

Like this map a lot ! Very nice.

We had a competition for a treasure map once with some great entries. Some of them took some real head scratching to resolve the treasure. Worth looking up on the search. Few years back now I believe !

Not to mention the one we had recently about a real location

Very nice idea and well executed

    Very Rep worthy I think.

What's the sinuous feature bottom-left on the Bing view?

There is a zooming buttons, one rotation button. I think it got clicked when the screen was being captured.
