Post Fantasy Map- Room for Artistic Freedom

    Hey,
I am currently drafting a fantasy novel based loosely on A Song of Ice and Fire with influences from The Elder Scrolls, Arthurian Legend and more. I am the sort of writer that comes up with characters, places, events, etc. and then pieces the main story around them as I go along. The story takes place on an island ruled by one king and split into a number of holds, each looked after by a lord. The key story line involves the west of the island at war with the east.

With a few characters and guilds down on paper, I now wish to attack the geography, holds and lords. What I am thinking of is an island similar to the British Isles. The west is an infertile land where men struggle with everyday life and the east is a fertile, rich land. There are only two things that are necessities:
A mountainous region around NW on the map, right on the coast.
A wide body in the center of the island where a large hold sits (the center of trade).
The rest is down to you.
Here is what I would like my island based around.

Since I am still young and writing is currently a hobby, there will unfortunately be no payment. However if this book materializes and is published, you will of course be fully credited for the design of the map and then would be a good time to talk about payment. Until then...

...I thank you in advance and look forward to seeing a great artist turn my idea into reality
    Many thanks.

Here is a brief thought. The main question I had for you was dimensions.
How big a place did you want?

Looking great! I was thinking of it in total being a little larger than the British Isles. After trawling the internet for a map of the British Isles, I finally found this one with a scale chart: http://wikitravel.org/upload/shared/...ingdom_map.png
Hope it helps, look forward to the final design.

P.S Forgot to mention... would it be possible to add some rivers?
    Many thanks

Posted before my original one was accepted by administrator.
If you read before acceptance then...
... I was hoping for the islands to be a little larger than the British Isles.
Here is a map I found with a size guide: http://wikitravel.org/upload/shared/...ingdom_map.png
    Hope this helps.

    Map

You can have anything you like; rivers, roads, trails, towns, different colours, symbols for hills and mtns and forests etc etc.
I was just showing you a style and there are plenty at this website to choose from.
I quickly added some rivers but would need to go back and tidy them up.
If this looks like something you can work with, I'd be happy to work off-line to get you what you want.

I like the style; it's clear and something I can draft over without it looking a mess. Look forward to working with you.

Hey, hope this is not too inconvenient :/ I have been drafting a little more and now require an island, about the same size of the north island, north of the current north island. Because of this I would like to bridge the gap between the main island and the north island so I have more room for holds and cities. I hope this does not cause too much of a problem.
    Many thanks.
P.S Mail me when you are at the stage for finer details

Forgot to attach picture to show what I meant. Read lines show where I would like the land to go; the actual shape is down to you, just elaborate on my lines. Green wiggle just shows the new island. I hope for the distance to be about 2 squares.
Really sorry if this causes too much trouble
