    Default Unnamed Land WIP

    Hey there,

I thought I'd just upload a brief WIP image and maybe get some feedback on the mountains. I am aiming for a slightly more painterly style this time and although they are still rough and need cleaning up I think you should be able to get a feel for them.

I am kind of see-sawing between liking them one moment and closing PS down in disgust the next.

    Opinions?

I might stay away from the "color-burned yellow" shade... maybe just tint the midtones-to-highlights more toward the border tones. Kinda reminds me of a cheese sculpture with that yellow. The bottom edges of the mountains are quite soft, like they're sitting in mist, slightly detached from the rest of the landscape. I'm not trying to be critical, but I find that when I'm 50/50 on something it can help to have others point out their observations and sometimes it's exactly what I was feeling but not able to touch upon. Just my observations. I'd fiddle with the color balance at any rate. The lines and 'brush'strokes are nicely put. I'm very happy to see you working on another map. Always inspiring. Your Unknowne Lands made me think to put some vine-work in the cartouche of my current commission map.

    Hey there,

I thought I'd share an equally opinion dividing (meaning myself) forest style that I was working on for this map.

It's just a test style so the positioning and shape of the actual forests were just thrown down quickly.

:/ Hmm not really convinced by those ones. The painting style is nice but I don't know maybe it's the light/shades work but they look a bit odd to my eyes, especially with the mountains.

I'll agree with -Max-, now that I looked more carefully at it, the forests do seem a bit odd when trying to fit with the mountains. They are very cool, but something is wrong

I think the shadows on the forests makes them look impressively huge compared to the mountains?

    Lovely effect though!

I have to agree with Max. Not a fan of this forest style. Maybe it's just me but when i see it, i am thinking "shrubbery" more than "forest".
