Default Reshka - comission for a novel

I recently completed another commission for an upcoming novel - The Changing of the Sun by Lesley Smith.

The coast was drawn in Gimp using my Wacom, and the features were mostly all done in Inkscape, using a set of stamps I have, then imported into Gimp as layers. The crater, waterfalls, and basin were drawn in with Gimp to blend with those. All the labeling was also done in Inkscpe and pulled into Gimp as a layer. All the shading was done in Gimp. The solar system and planet inset were outlined in Inkscape and then touched up in Gimp, when everything was composted together.

There is another map in the works that shows the same continent after a major cataclysm.... You will have to wait to see that one

Lesley also asked that I post up the WIP images, so I'll just do that here, starting with the sketch she provided, my proposal sketch, then the various stages before the final map...

I really like the way the Solar elements are incorporated into it too. It's subtle enough that it doesn't distract from the map at all, but prominent enough that the information is right there.

I was caught up on how nicely the typeface matches the visuals. The simple calligraphy brush style really lets you jam pack a whole lot of details the map. Good job!
Here's a link to my deviantART, because I haven't got better things to write here (yet).

Thanks for the nice comments! Lesley was very pleased with the final result, as was I!

For those interested in the font - it is brushtipTexe | JOEBOB (Check it out - this guy has a ton of excellent fonts for sale that would be suitable for maps!)

Also - The final map (the world a few thousand years later after a major cataclysm and sea level rise):

The idea of the Lurem Sea is that it was created in an event similar to the Zanclean Flood
