I attend the forum for quite some time, but it is the first time that I show you one of my works. I took some brushset and tutorial from this forum and I have worked for a whole week. What you see above is the result. I hope you enjoy it. I think it is a typical example with which we can study and will get anywhere.

Good luck to everyone. I apologize in advance for my English.

Please feel free to leave comments!

Congratulations for your first post and your first map... and a very nice map it is!

Good layout, very nice subtle choice of colors and a fine application of highlights. The snow covered peaks make the central mountain ridge stand out perfectly.

There's just two points I personally would like to see changed:
    - the white outer glow for the settlement icons is a little too harsh in my opinion.
    - several labels would benefit from a little less bending.

All in all a great first map! Welcome to the Guild AleDebby.

Thank you very much for the advice and for the nice words. For the next map will try to put them into practice.

Thank you very much for the welcome.

    Very fine map!

I like the overall feeling and the color choices. I have to agree with freodin about the white glow for your town icons though.

What do you advise me to highlight icons?

Maybe just reduce the opacity of the glow. The goal is to create a bit of separation between the icon and the terrain its on in order to increase the readability of the map. What I like to do is to put the opacity at zero, then bring it up slowly until the icon slightly lifts out of the details around it.

I found this beautiful mini-tutorial. Let's see what happens if I apply the advice to my city.

Thanks Midgardsormr for the advice. I will try it.

Wow! If this is your first map maybe I have some hope. Congrats on a beautiful piece of art.
I just downloaded Gimp and I've found no end of tutorials. In fact, so many it's a little confusing.
Which tutorials did you follow, if I may ask?

    Ciao,
    John

For the creation of the map that you have seen above I have followed two tuorial:

    - Hand-Drawn Mapping (for the Artistically Challenged)
    - Making Map Borders in GIMP

As noted above, for the icons of the cities I suggest this:

    - Geographic Icons - A Mini-tut for GIMP and Inkscape

    Good Work
