Wip October 2013 Entry - Riggerholm

I will map an island, Riggerholm, seat of the Riggermen, an seafaring people who like to raid and pillage coastal towns and cities along rivers at the nearby mainland of Korodia.
The first map will be in the style of a Renaissance map, while the second one...well, I'm not sure at the moment. Either a very painterly style or a modern map of the island. Or maybe something else.

wow, great map! I really like your mountains, rivers, and lakes. The only thing I don't like is the texture the sea, I'm not the biggest fan of it. The shape of the island is awesome! great job!

Looks nice though I 'm wondering how it will render a renaissance style...

    Thanks!
I will study some Blaeu maps to get the style right. I think it will be mainly the decorative elements that will give that result. The sea will get another appearance in the next update.

That's some good reference Though I'm still thinking that geographic elements would also help to give the result.

Sap, is it coincidence that the Riggermen sound like Vikings, and the island resembles Iceland?

No. But the island is placed more south than Iceland, giving it a more temperate climate.

Of course. Tree and town symbols should do this, too.

    Wip

I found a French cartographer, Nicolas Sanson, and decided to push the map in this direction. Trees and water color strokes added.
