Default WIP for my CWBP 2 World Map

So I've been working on this for the new Co-op world building project, I've got till the 30th which is the deadline for proposals so there is some time to submit it.

At first I was only going to have land on the North Pole so someone could map the top of the world, but then I had a point come off that big continent in an unexpected way which reached the south pole. I haven't really decided whether to leave the kind of island thing I made there at the South or have the peninsula just terminate more naturally at the south. I figured someone could do a neat map of the area either way.

I've got my major land areas down in a manner that is pleasing to me and both the poles are working without warping now. Now I need to refine the coasts a bit and add a lot more major island which seems to be far more difficult to do in a convincing manner. Any tips regarding island placement would be appreciated. I'm also still eliminating some of the stretchy looking features that appear in the orthographic view, now only present in the continents near the South pole.

After this I was going to go through Arshees' Gimp tutorial for the height map and then run it through Wilbur a few times and that should do it.

    Here it is so far:
    Equirectangular, North Pole, South Pole.

I managed to build an ok height map. It needs some editing that I didn't see until I put it into colour.

I'm thinking I need to get it to blend more gradually into the ocean in a lot of places and running it through Wilbur some more. Blending the Arctic, desert, and temperate, layers as Arsheesh suggests in his tutorial should go a long way to helping too I think.

Nice landmasses. I always hate how maps look when wrapped to a globe, they warp so much. Yours looks pretty good though

Finished it for the most part. I didn't have time to adjust and redo the poles warpage so it gets severely distorted. Thanks to go to Arsheesh for his excellent tutorial without which I would have been nowhere.

I submitted it on the Coopertaive World Map Submissions thread here.

Looks very neat Falconius!! I will have to check out Arsheesh's tutorial too if it facilitates such work.

I like that little string of lands between north pole and the continent.

BTW, how did you get those pole view image, G.projector?

Yeah I used G. Projector which very nice and useful. It may cost a damn fortune to operate, but NASA is still pretty damn cool. There is a way to do it in Gimp apparently but I didn't really have time to go through that tutorial too even though it didn't look so long.

Realy nice forms. I rather like the northpole, the south looks realy a bit strange.

Yeah there was lots of trouble dealing with the distortion. I finally got it OK in the black/white landmass drawing but wrapping all that topography stuff brought back all the problems. Really it needed to be edited from the south orthographic perspective really. Didn't have enough time or the will to fix it though. I figure the mappers will do that for themselves should anyone take up the cause
