Thread: suggest software- can't draw

    Default suggest software- can't draw

I want to design a model railroad (w/buildings etc) on the computer before I build it.

Is there a software you'd suggest with stock images. I can't draw and would like to be able to view it in 3d.

    Thanks

What sort of detail are you shooting for - to plan exact placement of everything, or to do some conceptual what-if stuff? Do you need 'art' like the illustrations of layouts in MR & RMC, or more of a CAD diagram that'll be basis for cutting lumber and figuring grades?

What era and type of railway are you modeling? What scale of models? Enquiring minds need to know :-).

I'd like to "what if " the buildings and the road (maybe importing actual pictures of the buildings). Art not CAD (that comes later). Hopefully N gauge infront and I thought I'd try T-scale in the distance.

For forced perspective you'd want T in the front (1:100) and N in the back (1:160). If your main interest is N Scale, you could try Z in back ....

Discussions like this one give some Model RR Sketchup pointers.

I'm sorry I have no idea how the software works.
