Ha, fun! I already got a lot of them!

Oh yea, pretty good ones at that. I'm not on my computer, tomorrow I'll get the names and post here (I only know linux ones tho). And yeah, to map a star system you have to drop the scale, otherwise its just a black screen lol

This is a very nice entry indeed

I wouldn't worry about an accurate scale... no way you'd be able
to achieve that in a practical way. Doing so wouldn't add a lot
to the map either. I like it as it is.

For the first two updates you posted, how'd you get it to show
    the dimensions underneath the thumbnail?
The best maps are the ones we like the most after looking at the longest.

I like your “test your inner geek” naming, even if you’re giving famous planets names to entire systems .

I would like to see a shield/flag of planet Fold and maybe, if you have not planned already, I would add a sci fi techno border to the whole thing.

    Yes, I know..

Although, if I recall right: In Traveller systems were named after their "main" world ..

A crest sounds like a good idea

(To be honest, at the moment I'm stuck anyway, so any kind of suggestion what to do next is cool )

Oh, and I added a border.

I'm not used at all to sci fi maps, to be honest, so I'm having troubles thinking up a "cool" border ... might need to check the sci-fi section here ...

Here goes the crest of the ruling caste of fold: The church of flight.

According to their credo " 'cause it's easier to fly", the crest depicts a stylized flying device inspired by one of the many flying animals on the planet:

The crest picks up the requirements of the contest again, combining sqares, circles and some triangles ...

And in case you were wondering: This crest has been done entirely with PowerPoint 2010

Now I need a place to include it

It's hard not to meet the requirements since PNG uses pixels and pixels are normally squares. And the symbol look good by the way.

I have an annoying question about your map: Southern Sun subsector; I think it doesn't make sense. Or maybe I'm not geek enough to understand.

Ooookkkk ... so, there is a DJ: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Oakenfold
That's why there is a system Pau I. next to the Oaken system containing the planet Fold.

One of his hits is "Southern Sun" containing the line " 'cause it's easier to fly than to face another night in southern sun"

Another one of his hits is "Café del Mar", a remix of one of the most heared trance hits of the world - and the reason I renamed one of the planets

The show goes one right here:

    Question

    So, yeah ..

I found this thread in the sci-fi Forums:
    http://www.cartographersguild.com/sc...aser-wars.html

And since someone asked, whether a tutorial for a map like this could be created, I tried to copy the style, trying to find out, whether I could provide a tutorial for a map like this ...

    Here is the result:

Turns out, this map features lots of triangles, squares and circles as well ..

Question: Which one would you prefer?
    Which one should I submit?

    *undecided*

    Kind regards,
    Kai

I would keep the second map as the principal map, and I would incorporate the features of the first map into the second, if it is possible. I think they could complement well.
