Wip Isle of Randomness, Pt. Two

    'Ello, 'ello...

As suggested, I am working on my relief technique; so here's is Pt. Two: a smaller image, different shape, with 3 different types of mountains. No other enhancements. Let me know if I'm doing any better. Working with the same tutorial as before.

More info: added some details, again; critique welcome. If needs be, see previous thread "Isle of Randomness" for comparison

Strange, and very fun. The mountains to the northeast are a bit "unrealistic", geologically unlikely to happen. The other elements are well, and the look is fine. Colors are good too.

Thanks for the input! As for your comment on the northeast, bear in mind that it's not the map, per se, as much as it is technique. This and the prior posts are "mosh ups" looking for input so I can correct and refine my technique.

    I see.
About the tech: do you use some program to build that, or you do it manually?
I think it's awesome! Random is always cool.

It's more or less manual, with GIMP, using/tweaking the following tutorials -

RobA's original tutorial (for everything up to mountains): "Using GIMP to Create an Artistic Regional RPG Map" http://www.cartographersguild.com/tu...l-rpg-map.html
And the revised, 5 part PDF from this thread: http://www.cartographersguild.com/tu...sentation.html

downloaded from Forums->Tutorials/How-To->Tutorials in PDF Format:
"Making Photorealistic Trees in GIMP: A Mini Tutorial" by Arsheesh
"Simple Mountains in GIMP" by RobA

FYI: After hours of experimentation, I found that by mixing-and-matching/tweaking and playing with parts of each tutorial, I can USUALLY get what I want; tho I still can't figure out how to make a decent volcano.

    Hope this helps.

    Whoa, using GIMP? Nice!

    Thank you.
