This is going to turn out beautiful, I can tell. I'm excited to watch this one grow.

I've finished the outer water staining, here is the map as of today. I used some contact paper to act as masking around some of the lakes to help keep the stain inside. I've been messing with different small utensils to drip stain into the little rivers that run throughout the land. I'm hoping to finish all blue staining this week and then finish all the labels with the burner next weekend, then I'll finish the top. End is in sight!

Just finished the burning this morning, and have added the first coat of finish! I'm digging the grain pop. A few more hours then I'll sand, re coat, wait, sand one more time, re coat a third one, then I guess it'll be done.
My next plan is to get some wooden drink coasters, then burn the house sigils into them. What's a coffee table without coasters? Thanks for all the support, I hope to continue carving maps!

A few closeups from yesterday (6/7), before the stain was added. I managed to sneak in the weirwood and pond from Winterfell.

This is great, I'm so happy to see more woodwork. I'm surprised I haven't seen this yet, but I'm really impressed. Apparently I need a dremel and a wood burning kit...

    cheers,

I went to the hardware store and bought some wood and a couple of wood chisels because of this. Your Westeros is turning out awesome, and I wish I could do something as cool as this!

Looks like it would be a good application for a mirrored epoxy top: HOW TO APPLY EPOXY RESIN ON TABLE TOPS COUNTER TOPS BAR TOPS APPLICATION DEMONSTRATION - YouTube
Although personally having had bad experiences with clear coats and such, I'd do testing first if you were inclined to go for it.
