Default Elkudum - My First Completed Map!

A few days ago, I posted the first steps of making a map. I had only the outlines of the continents of the world. That link is here: http://www.cartographersguild.com/re...beginning.html

Now I have completed a satisfactory map using the Antique-Style guide by Candacis, which is based on a guide for photoshop by Ascension. I know there are problems with it. I have seen a few myself since I converted it to an image file. Also, it is rather blurry right now. The original was 3000x3000 pixels, which was likely WAY more than necessary. The file was so big that it would not attach to this post, so I shrunk it to 1500x1500.

Most of the countries on here I just created without thinking too much about them, just to fill up the map. I have only decided to keep a small number of them if I continue with this world in the future. Despite the issues with this map, I am very proud of it as my first completed project!

Change your colours, no one can really see anything on there with so much saturation. From what we can see, it looks somewhat promising.

Leave color just around the edge. That should help with legibility.

Is this better? I lowered the opacity from 35% to 20% on each of the country layers.

EDIT: I also see that it might be beneficial to move the names layer above the border layers. A few names are cut off by the borders.

It's a lot better, but you should still go with JonPin's suggestion.

Okay, now I have turned the color off, as well as moved the name layers above the border layers. The names are still hard to read in some places. I will definitely pay closer attention to where I place the names in future maps. This map was more of an experiment to try out GIMP and see how it works.

You can consider your experiment a success.

The compass rose in the key does not make sense on this map.

Sorry, I just had to find at least one thing to critizise. Well done!
