Wip September Entry: The Saga of Oath-Bound Men

    The Saga of Oath-Bound Men.

Here is a super early draft of what I have in store. The map is incredibly large because I have never worked on such a large scale before, 100 mi x100 mi so I want the resolution high to be able to get a little realistic on this one.

It will basically be entirely painted in photoshop, as you can see i have done some 5 minute sketches of some mountains.

We will see what happens with this one. I have a style developed that I used on another map on ConquerClub, but I have never tried it at this scale.

    Comments welcome.

oh and the CG image hosting seems to be having a hell of a time with this file so here it is.

I will try to get it hosted here later.

Ok I did more work on the mainland, mountains, trees and grasslands.
The image is 7500px which is roughly 70'' to the pixel. I am trying to keep the scale fairly accurate while maintaining lots of detail. Each and every tree should be depicted. It has been entirely done with the brush tool so far.

edit: I had to reduce it to 3500px for uploading.

That's an interesting looking technique for representing mountains. And it looks like there's much potential. Going to keep an eye on this thread

I'm not sure why it wont let me upload the larger image, but I use a site called zoomorama which is great for hi-res images. Its a flash based zooming app.

Here is the full 7500x7500 image.

    Lord-

from the "we really have to get this FAQ posted some day" on uploading images:

    Limitations
Unfortunately, there are also a couple of limitations. The first is file sizes. The following is a list of the file size limits:

    bmp - 7.63 MB
    gif - 7.63 MB
    jpg - 4.77 MB
    png - 4.77 MB

The second limit is the actual image size. The image must be less than 30 megapixels in actual size. If you try to upload a 6000x6000 jpeg that has a file size of only 1MB, it will fail (sometimes with a blank screen, sometimes with a database error depending on the actual size...) as it is 36 megapixels. This limitation is being worked on, and will hopefully be resolved soon.

To show of images larger than this, you will have to use an off-site image hosting service and provide a link.

I like the painterly feel on the mountains, reminds me of Bob Ross and his happy lil hills. Might darken the trees though, they look a bit bright or plasticy. Otherwise, nice work so far.
