Help How can I take a detailed sketch and turn it into a map on my computer.

I have a few sketches on paper, some of them have a good bit of detail others have little detail, and they are not rough outlines. How can I take these paper maps and finish them up on a computer?

    Thank you!

it depends on the sketch and the tools you KNOW how to use

    for example :
this idea has been floating around my head and hard drives for a bit
    Dune's Arrakis
    starting with something like this
    http://feyd.rautha.free.fr/Dune/Arrakis%20map%201.jpg
and converting it to a height map for 3d rendering

    or

something like from this post here
    http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...384#post261384
using "wilbur" to make a height map
and from that a labeled map

then there is the scan the images into the computer and work on them with The Gimp or in photoshop

Are you basically wanting to do a painted color version of line work? If so, tomorrow I am going to do a walk through of the process I go through in this thread - http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=29817.
There are a lot of ways you can go about it. They all vary in complexity and difficulty. Have a look tomorrow and see if this will work for you. Cheers.
