    Default Search Problems Again

Any search I do with any of our computers produces the following error message with both Firefox 35 and IE 11:

    connection to localhost:9312 failed (errno=111, msg=Connection refused).

I would recommend using Google in the meantime, using: '' your request '' followed by '' site:cartographersguild.com '' works pretty well.

I can't even get to my started threads. It pulls some error message. [ connection to localhost:9312 failed (errno=111, msg=Connection refused) ]
Is that related to the search problem? It seems like it is doing this about every 2-3 months lately.

    odd
    connection to localhost:9312 failed
the "localhost" AKA "127.0.0.1" is the computer YOU are using
    it is calling it's self

it is the "loop back" for when there IS NO network connection

this would indicate a problem with your ISP and / or your modem / cable/dsl box

    as for searching

NO ONE!!!! has the resources to have a MAJOR search engine on there site
-- cost prohibitive TO THE MAX!!!

    use googles " site:" tag
    Code:
    dune site:http://www.cartographersguild.com
and this allows you to use ALL of googles advanced search tools
    Code:
    + , - , " one two three four "

I'm having some difficulty getting the sphinx software working...going to try again probably tomorrow, and if it doesn't work, I'll switch back to the native search. Sorry for the inconvenience...I know search is pretty important.

    a windows firewall

you DO KNOW that in 7 and 8 Microsoft fixed the piece of crap thing that was a firewall in XP

the 7 and 8 one is actually fairly GOOD

and there is NO NEED to buy something else

almost EVERY third party "firewall" for 7 and 8 are a BIG WAST OF CASH$$$$

John, I'm referring to Sphinx Search for SQL Databases. It's a third party software package that does some incredible indexing for large SQL databases. This site is what most would refer to as a large database. If I were to reindex the database using default mysql, it would take about a half a day. Whereas with Sphinx it can index and optimize in a matter of minutes, and still provide really good search results and speed. Problem is, we were recently moved to a new server, and the software needed to be reinstalled...

The biggest problem is that the Sphinx plugin for vbulletin software is written by a money hungry guy who wants 150 bucks a year for the license, or you have to become a premium member to his site which is 25 bucks a month to download the latest version...so every time we upgrade the software or I need access to the support section (install instructions which change as they make changes to sphinx) I have to drop 25 bucks and then immediately cancel the subscription. That's happening today, because I wasn't able to get the software working without it. Wish me luck, I'm embarking on this journey now.
