"Wow. I had no idea it would cost that much. I knew it would entail some work but Wow. I thought it was a computer program.. No disrespect intended, we have family portraits done by hand that were far less and more complex. Thanks

You know, people that say sh!!t like that really make me want to find out what they do for a living, or pour their heart into as a hobby, and completely disparage it and tear it apart. God, what a tool.

Artists will never be understood... The thing is, making a map is harder that it looks. Ask anyone here that already made a map.

Frankly, 100-200 USD $ for a couple hours job is not exaggerated. I've seen companies paying thousands and thousands of silver pieces JUST FOR A SMALL SIMPLE LOGO.

QFT - I try to figure my rates sometimes compared to what I do as a software developer and it's hard to figure. I enjoy making art but if I'm really honest, financially I should walk away. It's just not worth it. Then, if I charge an honest rate it seems exorbitant but the truth is that's the correct price. Too bad, if it's out of your reach. Go find someone who hasn't figured out that we have a limited number of hours in our lives.

Yes of course. We, artists take your sketch, open Photoshop, push the "mapmaking" button ( or Ctrl Alt Space Enter M P Caps keyboard shorcut) and take the big bucks. Yes this is how we artists live. What a wonderful life, thanks to computer programs.

Lol, there's a couple of scripts to make maps.
    They are not so great.

It is not specific to artists, it's just jerks being jerks. Last year we made a catering deal with a guy and he pulled the same nonsense as Sapiento's story, except our partner never got the second half of the money owed he was only paid according to what the customer thought it was worth after everything was done, which was far short of the agreed upon price. Things to look out for are when they constantly try altering the deal (in order to say that you didn't honour it, or they weren't "actually" satisfied), or when they start to make plans that they feel would cost less for them but amount to the same product in the end (Like setting up a luncheon, but then saying they can get by with appetizers and that guest won't actually need a full meal). Better than getting paid, in full, up front, is not ever doing business with such lowlifes.
