    Default Ellonby [WIP]

Hi! Thought I'd start posting some images of a city map I'm going to make. I'm planning to make a large theatre the centre point of the town. It's for a DnD group I work with, so fluff wise it's that sort of period / setting.

Not done a city map before so I'm looking for feedback!

28/04/15: Got the main city area set out. Need to put some quirks in a lot of the building areas. Planning to add all notable/referenced buildings in darker, bolder colours. Might widen a bunch of roads to allow for more street names. Also got to add some out of town stuff...

01/05/15: Added contours as I got bored doing the buildings. Not sure if I'll keep them, although they took ages (for me!) to do.

06/05/15: Added forest and some street names. Still have to add outbuildings. Also not sure if I'm set with the OS style...

    13/05/15: Added a number key.

That's looking nice Formal Abu. Do you plan to add some terrain indications?

I was, but wasn't sure what type. I not sure that spot height circular contour lines would fit in aesthetically, and at the moment the map is a bit more clean cut than I anticipated so high-low vertical lines would be more difficult to add subtly. It's not supposed to be a particularly hilly area, so no major cliffs etc. What do you suggest?

Actually, I was more thinking of grass, rocks and trees . I don't really know how to do proper topographic levels for a city myself.

Haha oh right! Yeah a little: in a OS map way rather than a realism way though.

Tried contour lines... took a lot longer than I thought to free draw. Tricky things.

Great! I'd really like to see the contours continue under the buildings though, unless it's flat there?

Thanks! I did do contours under there, but erased them as it looked a bit untidy if I'm honest. I may bring them back further down the line. (As you say, the city was supposed to be on a flat base though so there aren't many there anyway!)
