Improbable Island

I was commissioned by a member of DA to produce a perspective map of Improbable Island, a text based online game, as a gift for the creator of that game. http://http://www.improbableisland.com/home
There were some challenges as much of it was already determined by the game itself, so some avenues were not an option.
The islands shape, layout and basic geography were already set so I had to work within those confines.
In the end though I was pretty happy with the outcome, as was the client.

Saithus - a commercial client actually said they were glad I put that on each piece as it made it easier to track me down.
And ironically, with this particular client, I sent them the final with a very much reduced sig, no larger than the copyright info.
They said no one will be able to read it at that size and wondered why it was so small so I enlarged it as per their request. nuff said.

Really nice! I like the crisp style. Is it hand drawn or do you use textures etc or what?

Thanks Carnifex. It's all hand drawn.
I often start with a pencil sketch and then redraw in PS.
Then I draw/paint everything in PS. Really just basic brushes.
And a good smudge brush for blending.

Wonderful island!

Spectaular colors, clouds, compass, icons... I love your islands.

As a personal "but", the text "Improbable island" looks a litlle bit descentrate to me and the forests are too similar to the grass.
